My Portion Psalm 119:57-64
57 The LORD is my portion; I have promised to keep Your words. 58 I sought Your favor with all my heart; Be gracious to me according to Your word. 59 I considered my ways
And turned my feet to Your testimonies. 60 I hastened and did not delay To keep Your commandments. 61 The cords of the wicked have encircled me, But I have not forgotten Your law.62 At midnight I shall rise to give thanks to You because of Your righteous ordinances. 63 I am a companion of all those who fear You, And of those who keep Your precepts. 64 The earth is full of Your lovingkindness, O LORD; Teach me Your statutes.
Life has a way of taking everyone through cycles of renewal and refreshing. The renewal part of life is great until it gets old then it’s time to go back into the cycle again. These cycles of time are enriched by the moments that give us space to reflect and remunerate about what needs to be lost and what needs to be gained. The Psalmist communicates that God is his ‘PORTION’, which is the first word in this section that begins with the Hebrew letter ‘chet’. It is therefore the focus of the psalmist, the fact that God is our PORTION.
The undertones to that statement is rich. The writer implies through the usage of the word that God is his allotment and inheritance and, does not require anything else. He finds fulfillment in the presence of God and in the truth of His word. This close and endearing sentiment towards God then changes his direction and the course of his feet. It also gives perspective for the season of his life that is dark but yet inspires praise towards God. This season may be obscure but yet He steadies His focus to see God clearly. This praise opens his eyes to relationships that encourage that kind of faith and as a result he appeals for a mercy that can only be felt through adequate introspection and meditation.
During this fast may we find and see that God is truly our portion. Let us see that He is more than enough and is masterful in dispensing mercy. Mercy is what’s needed because I have deficiencies. But whatever I lack My PORTION makes up the difference. Locate the areas of your own life where mercy is needed; fix your faith to desire more of God, let the presence and love of Christ in our hearts provoke us to intensify our gaze towards Him. Let this moment renew your thoughts and perspectives about God and you. Run towards Him, grope after Him and I pray that you find Him in all His fullness. Be blessed in your GOD PORTION.
